Hey folks, New guy here.
I would like to try a mechanical specifically the Grim Reaper Razortip 1 3/8". I am shooting a Hoyt Maxxis 31 at 60lbs. Arrow is a FMJ 400 cut to 27 1/4". I have a 27 1/2" draw length. have not chrono'd my set up so I do not know what speed I am shooting. I was shooting Beaman ICS 500's cut to 26 1/4" and they flew like lighting but I blew three of them up in mid air one day at a 3D shoot. When I switched to the FMJ 400's my local shop owner felt they were too stiff for my set up. I can see a significant speed reduction over the ICS 500's but they sure hit the target with a wallop. Looking for advice to see if I have enough KE for a mechanical thee blade like the GR. Thanks in advance for your help. Brian |

You didn't specify a drawlength, but from your arrow length I would assume you are shooting about 28.5 inches of draw length. If this is the case, you will have no problem and honestly, anything less would be sufficient as well.

Hi Bacon,
I'm shooting FMJ 400's @ 27" (60 lb draw - 27.5 draw length), blazers and with a 100 gr Slick Trick and a #3 BAR, my total arrow weight is about 425 grs. Out of my Athens Accomplice my arrows chrono'd 260fps. Your bow may be faster/slower but it should be in that general area for speed. To answer your question, I agree with Cartman - you have lots of KE for a mechanical broadhead with plenty of weight to back it up for good penetration. According to my KE calculator (backcountrybowhunting.com) I have 62.1 ft-lbs of KE for my setup. 44/40
