Do not know if there is an ideal figure, but i would have to believe that to be on the safe side, that 60#'s KE would be minimum for mechanicals or am I off base on this?

I would say that a figure in 60#'s of KE is more than sufficient, but preferred. Something around 50#'s, depending on the cut size and design of the broadhead must be taken into account. I wouldn't recommend it, but to be honest, a well placed shot with 45#'s of KE would penetrate sufficiently to kill whitetails, and also Rage claims this on the 40 KE models. Ultimately, to go much below 50#'s of KE, there would need to be some form of tradeoff, either in cut-diameter or in total arrow weight, which would need to be increased.
Ultimately however mudslinger, you are not really off base. You are spot on, especially when we are talking "ideal".
