You know, after watching the thread over on AT maybe it was just a fluke. It is possible something else happened to deflect the arrow straight down, but I didn't see anything. Maybe *gasp* it was user error! hmm. I will have to give the 2blade a try again, but not this year. I gots 2bld Bloodrunners for that.

i sure do like this sight. no name calling just experiences/opinions. i have never used Rages but two of my hunting buddies do. they both say if you hit them in the chest you will see them go down. this is shooting at stationary animals. my friends and i do alot of deer driving late season. when they tried the Rages on moving targets penetration was spotty at best. i don't think it was because of Rages, i think mechanicals in general don't like moving muscles and bones. after 6 hits, good hits, they quit using mechanicals on drives. there were penetration problems on every shot. these guys shoot 70# and 500+ grain arrows. we had to finish off all the deer in later drives.

I like the rage but having said that i have seen two different deer shot with the 3 bladed head and not kill the deer or get good penetration.I shot a doe at 13 yard with one and she tried to duck the arrow.I did hit her about 2 inches far forward and the only thing that went in her was the broadhead.I know this because we got picture of her 3 days later with the arrow still in her.I shoot a 73 pound switchback at 26 inch draw and a 400 grain arrow. The other deer was shot at 18 yards with a mathews monster set at 88 lbs.The only thing that penetrated this deer was the head as well. The deer was quatering away and the head skipped on the deers side and stuck in the shoulder.I know this as well because the neighbor shot him the next mourning when he came bye him and thankfully he killed him so we got to see what happened. The deer turned out to be a 142 inch 9 point.I e-mailed rage about this and they never did get back to me..

I have also gave into the craze about the rage broadhead. I was not even thinking about it when I was shooting my older PSE Fireflight due to lower fps but with my Mathews I decide to take a chance on them. I have found that if you use those small dental rubber bands like for braces and put them around the middle of the furrle where the blades enter it when in the closed position, it cuts down on the rattle noise and I have not had one open in my quiver. Just an idea but it seems to work.

I have to admit I was skeptical of the Rage (and most mehanicals), but after reading a lot of info on numerous websites (both good and bad) about the Rage, I figured I'd try them for myself and find out. I shot a good sized mature whitetail doe this year at 17 yds with one, and I can assure you they do work, and leave a good sized hole all the way through.
Having said that, I am still skeptical of their performance if bone is hit. Granted, not a lot of broadheads do well when they hit bone anyways. You can never assure a perfect hit, and we all make mistakes. Use them and try them, you may or may not like them. Slick Tricks are still my personal go-to broadhead, and the Rage worked very well for me....but I'm still on the fence about them. I know its hard, and I'm as guilty as anyone, but wait for the best shot - it's your best insurance regardless of what broadhead you use. If anyone is curious, I shoot a Athens Accomplice 60# with 425gr FMJ's @ 265 fps. The Rage tipped arrow went through her and I never did find it.... 44/40

I was a skeptic at first. I tried them and am impressed! i love my 2 blades, after seeing my results 3 of my friends switched and have all had good results, but granted the only thing i dont like about them is some of their advertising "expand your kill zone" every head must be well placed to be effective, granted they leave huge holes and from my experience very tough heads , but im a firm believer in letting the product sell itself, but they have done great for me!

i have shot the 2 blade and 3 blade and love them both....but feel better about putting a whole instead of a cut through a deer. only use them for deer hunting though and a little skeptical of using for turkey so i stick with fixed blade and i don't need a monster whole through them...lol

This is from my own persona experience on the 2 blade rage. I killed a few critters with them and when they work, they are awesome and deadly. Problem is they don’t always work. I put a 4 hour stalk on a 170 muley a couple of years ago. I finaly got within 40 yards and drew on him broadside, heads down and feeding. When I got to full draw something just didn’t seem right. I looked down and saw one blade dangling. Must of bumped some vegetation or something. I had to let it down and while I was fiddling with the head the deer fed away from me over a small hill. I traded out arrows and gave the next Rage head a good check. An hour later I got within bow range again, now how lucky is this! Just before I draw I pinch down on the blades to make sure they are in place, I draw on him and take one last look at the head, The blades are in place everything is a go. I touch it off and the arrow sped right on it’s mark for about 20 yards and then went right and dived to the ground behind the deer!! What just happened!! I really have no way of knowing, There wasn’t anything between me and the deer. The only thing I can surmise is one or both blades flung open in flight. What a crappy design. At least I cleanly missed the deer and didn’t wound it. I hear of people modifying them with a dermal and dental rubber bands or wire all the time. That probably works but it sure seems like Rage with as big as they are would fix the dang engineering flaws they have so we don’t have to modify their products to make them work. Even if that means using the ideas of other hunters to fix them.

GBA...That is some bad luck. That would make me sick to my stomach. I don't know that I have ever had one open in flight. I have had them not open on impact, but I have never had one open in flight. You may want to check the spine of your arrows to see if you are under. It seems to me it would either take unattainable MASSIVE KE to open a rage in flight or extreme/radical arrow articulation when leaving your bow. Have you paper tuned?
