Default 100gr Phantom does it again as well!

Got my GA bear opening day of our bow season in the N GA mountains, just an unreal hunt, never have seen so much bear sign and bears in my life, it was just wild! Shot my bear out of a white oak tree eating the heck out of acorns, thought it was bigger in the tree, but suffered some serious ground shrinkage upon falling dead out of the tree. Shot it with my new Hoyt Buffalo recurve, 54# at 27in shooting a 495gr arrow and it blasted thru the bear behind the shoulder and sailed out over the mountain valley never to be seen again. Bear lasted no more then about 8 secs before falling our DRT!

Hey Mark, that is awesome! Ground shrinkage or not, getting it done with the recurve is sweet. My favorite bear hunt is not my biggest bear by a long shot. Happy for you!

Thanks Stan appreciate that and you as well. Yeah it ended up weighing right at 100# and was bigger then I thought but sure felt alot heavier on the 2 mile carry out though! LOL

Awesome job Mark!!! Especially with a recurve!!

Hey to save opening another thread, are there plans on a 125 grain phantom MX, or MX-4?

I liked the phantom MXs and MX-4s when I was shooting 100 grains, but am shooting the 125 MX-3s (amongst others) because lack of 125 options.

Let me know, and congrats again!

Not immediately since we only introduce a very limited amount of heads at each time, but if interest is there we will definitely look at it. 125's are coming back around as people are finding out how well they fly and stabilize a carbon arrow.
We do have a new Phantom coming out for 2012 as well as some options for the crossbow guys so I am sure with enough interest we will address the 125gr crowd as well. I would love to see a 125 and 75gr 4bl version of the MX series as well, so maybe that might come in the future!

Mo/AR; one solution would be to use a heavier insert (brass).
Thats been my solution when I really like a head but they don't make it in 125gr.
Good luck, hope this helps!!!

I already have 75 grains screwed into the back of my inserts. Much more, and my spine would be too weak. I have some 25 grain adapters i use occasionally... Just prefer to use an appropriately weighted broadhead. Thanks for the tip, though. And thanks for the info Mark.

I personally like 4bl heads and that is pretty much all I have shot since I started shooting Muzzy's back in '89-'90, but 3bl heads have always been our most popular and typically new heads will normally come out in a 3bl version followed by 4bl if there is enough interest. Took me awhile to finally get 'em to do the MX-3 in 125gr but it is sweet!
Will keep working on it and hopefully will have something in the future.

Here's another 1 along with some other does I shot as well, but this one takes the cake, 7 1/2 yo 11pt could not stand that Phantom, hit him about 3in behind the shoulder came out in the pocket on the other side and he ran straight up the corn row about 100yds and went down, foot wide blood trail all the way!

Great photos. BTW, I'm a recurve guy too.
