Default A little about Muzzy and me!

Had a great talk with Bo and crew at the ATA show and very excited to see this site and what they have created here. I will be adding this site into my favorites that I visit on a daily basis. Part of my job here along with being the Technical Support Specialist for Muzzy, is to monitor some of the more popular archery forums on the internet and I believe this site will be a very welcome and utilized forum to help all bowhunters.
Any questions or technical information regarding our broadheads or any of our products I will be glad to answer and look forward to being of assistance to all.
I will attach my e-mail address as well as all contact information so please feel free to contact or address me personally with any questions or comments you may have. We take our products very seriously and live by our mission statement:
The Muzzy Mission
"Muzzy shall manufacture only those products found to be unique, superior or equal to the best products available. We shall manufacture those products which enhance the hunter's chance for success, with constant regard and respect for the animals upon which they are used."
All of us are serious bowhunters and I know for me personally bowhunting and archery is much more then a sport or passtime, it is a lifestyle, just ask my supporting wife!!!
I shot my 1st deer with a bow in 1978 and have been taking them ever since with bow and arrow. I hunted with modern equipment until '92 when I decided to go traditional only and have truly enjoyed returning to the trad side of archery. I still shoot and test and tune with all modern equipment and am very experienced in all facets of archery. I use to shoot competively for several years and shot as a PSE sponsored shooter in the ASA and IBO circuits. I still shoot a few tournaments but prefer to spend most of my time pursuing fish and game. In my years of hunting I have had the pleasure of bow hunting or bowfishing in over 15 states and Canada and have taken deer, elk, mule deer, black bear, wild hogs, turkey, alligator and just about all legal small game and fish with bow and arrow and pretty much all of those with a recurve as well. I do travel extensively with my job promoting and participatiing in bowfishing events and shoot a number of bowfishing competitions yearly and have appeared on many TV shows and DVD's along with seminar speaking and banquet speaking engagements as well.
Basically what I am trying to say is I have alot of experience not only with design, engineering and product development, but also extensive in-field use of these products and always look forward to sharing and helping others in the sport with anything that I can. I look forward to participating and becoming an active member of this site and helping whenever I can. Thanks

Hey Mark, can you tell us a little about your set-up? I shoot traditional quite a bit myself. Was wondering what your Muzzy Broadhead of choice is with your recurve and why. Thanks.

Yessir Redfeather, glad to! Of course for many years I shot our standard 115 or 125gr 4bl Muzzy heads and they did just fine. I would take the trocar tip and sharpen it up on a diamond stone because I do believe it offered a slight advantage in cutting on contact and you can get the trocar tip very sharp, plus I am very sharpening challenged and enjoyed the ease or replacing blades versus having to resharpen. I have always prefered a multi blade head and pretty much shot a 4bl head the majority of my bowhunting time. I believe they cut a larger, cleaner hole in the animal and leave a better blood trail and more internal damage as well. I have never been a fan of 2bl heads and slits in animals, I like big holes for lot's of stuff to fall out and as long as my arrow is completely thru the animal I want to leave behind as big a hole as possible. But over the last 3 years or so I have been shooting our Phantom 125gr 4bl head more and am happy with them, although I would not hesistate to shoot anything with the Muzzy 125gr 4bl head as well. In fact 1 of the 7 deer I took with my recurve this season was with the 125gr 4bl Muzzy and a complete pass thru.
With the option of different sharpeners I have been very successful at touching the blades up and keeping them sharp and we now have our own sharpener as well that I can keep in my pocket and touch up a broadhead very easily.
Of course with traditional bows and limited arrow speeds in order to achieve adequate penetration since you do not have the speed you need to shoot more arrow weight and I truly believe in the 10grs per # ratio and it has seemed to work out well with my setups. I shoot heavy tip weighted, high FOC carbon arrows and normally penetration is not a problem. With a 100gr brass insert and 125gr tip, my arrows are perfectly bare shaft tuned and fly and penetrate very well. I have been shooting the Beman MFX shafts the last couple of years and they work very well and I like the smaller diameter also. Hope that answers your questions.

I just switched the the phantoms and I'm very impressed with them. They hold up well and the blood trails are awesome! I was surprised how good they shoot as well. I hope Muzzy keeps making them. Great broadhead! Oh and welcome to Broadheadtalk!

Another satisfied customer. Gotta love that. My old man has shot Muzzy's ever since I can remember. He doesn't bow hunt much anymore, but he still tips them arrows with old faithful.

I've always liked Muzzys. Killed my first deer with them(and many others) and I really like Fred and Michelle Eichler. Pretty cool ya'll are here and thanks for coming aboard.

On your trad setup..Your arrows are 550grs? I know Fred says his finished arrow is right under 500grs. and it's gone thru moose even at just 54#. That says a lot really on shot placement and broadhead selection!

I know it doesn't matter, but I'd still like to know. What recurve do you use most?

I hope to get to try a Phantom out this season on a critter! I got them later in the season this year and never got to use them.

My 500 spine setup is 520grs and my 400 spine setup is 560grs. I shoot a 54 and 56# BW SA recurve. My draw length is only 27in so I have to shoot a little more bow weight to keep my energy up. Fred can get away with a low draw weight since his draw is a little over 30in and he really gets alot more performance out of his 54# draw weight then a shorter draw person would. His arrow come out of his bow about 20fps faster then mine even though we shoot the same bow weight and similar arrow weight.
Look forward to spending some time here, nice distraction from all the mess that goes on with some of the other forums and why I have really stopped posting on many of them. Thanks

That's cool. I shoot a BW PSA II 56@28 and draw it right at 30" and the thing fits me like a glove. Got it in trade for a Mathews Outback I was no longer using this past October. Heckuva trade for me. Only took 1 doe with it.

*I had some other stuff typed, but decided it'd be better to start another thread!*

PS. Pictures of the critters you took would be nice. I think I speak for a lot of us when I say we like pictures!

Man I have a ton of pics just have to find a place to post them up! Love my BW bows, they just shoot so well for me. I actually have 5 of them, the 2 SA's and 2 HS short metal handle models and a 1225 as well. I've got a Dorado and Gamemaster as well, but they are not even close to the BW in shooting them.
