Default Phantom MX

Ok Mark, or anyone else, how do you get the phantom MX apart in order to sharpen the blades. My pea sized brain just isnt letting me figure it out.

Thanks for the help

Matt

Matt,

I don't take the blades off the ferrule, I simply use the ferrule as a guide and clamp the jaws of my KME knife sharpener so they lign up with the ferrule and away I go, razor sharp in no time.

I have not found a sharpener that will allow a clean stroke on the whole blade without hitting the bleeder or main blade. Someone else on here told me you can get the bleeder off if you pull down, but you might have to use pliers. I havent had time to try it yet, but will look into it.

I like the head, but it seems to be too much trouble... We'll see.

Thanks

Not to sound too dumb, but you do have the head off the shaft right? On my Phantoms I can pull down on the bleeder to dislodge and over to get it out without pliers, but like I said earlier, pliers are what I would suggest if they aren't sliding out for you easliy.

Yes, off the shaft. I have been that dumb before, but not this time

If the kids will ever go to bed, I might try it tonight. If not this weekend.

Varmint, are you talking about the MX's or the regular phantoms? The MX is the one I am having trouble with (I dont know that there is a difference other than size)

Thanks again.

Matt

My apologies Matt, I thought you were talking about a 2 blade ( without the bleeder blades ). We only shoot the two blades Phantoms.

Sorry guys, been off the site for awhile!
The bleeder blade can be removed but is much harder to do then the standard Phantoms since it is so short and stiff. You will need to use pliars and can slide down and pivot out, but it will take some effort but get's easier each time. We use our Redi-edge designed sharpener to sharpen them up without removing the bleeder blade and can get within a 1/8in of the ferrule on the bleeder blade. Good luck!

Thanks Mark. I like the looks of the new sharpener, but I havent seen one in person yet. Might be another tool I "have" to pick up.
