Bigtimber, yes I was actually hunting Sandhill crane. I have done alot of scouting to find the areas they land and feed in. We do have a high number of SH Cranes fly through our area, often finding them walking on the sides of our log roads. I have had a small flock of 15 fly approximately 40 feet over our home and the reason we knew they were above was the very long squawk they make.
The Sandhill crane is considered a medicine bird for the First Nation people living here, mainly because they do contain all of the nutrients of beef but are also much higher in iron content. We often see flocks as big as 40 flying over Fort Simpson and we can hear them far away. I am not the only one hunting them here but I am the only one doing so with the bow and arrow. Daniel

Thanks for the great information... I find the different animals people hunt (different than me) very interesting. I just googled the sh crane... Beautiful red head... Interesting fact on wikipedia... Sh cranes mate for life... and can live up to 25 years old in the wild... interesting bird. Looking forward to your other kills

Stan - you really know how to spark some interest now don't you. What is it that you teach again, marketing???
![]() I agree with Travis, this should be a fun thread to watch. I made it a sticky so it will always be at the top for everyone to find easily. Does my hog count as 1 for me, even though it was prior to the contest?

Oh yeah, I teach math Not sure about marketing but I've always enjoyed having a good time and watching others have a good time too. Just seemed like fun. I actually think this one gets credited to Bigtimber

Here is number one with the Phoenix for me.
![]() ![]() I would have a coyote to put up here, also taken with the same Phoenix but it ran off to the neighbors property and I don't have permission to go over and retrieve it. Oh yeah and if I could shoot straight I would have a turkey LOL.

How did I miss this thread? OK first deer of the year for me. Sorry for the crummy cell phone pic.
125grn phoenix on a 29.5" ACC ph weighing in at 492grains. The broadhead entered the top should and exited at the bottom of the opposite side flank. the arrow was in the dirt on the other side. Bones where split just like some of the other pics. pretty cool performance, and the broadhead is still fine.

Here is number two for my 100 gr Phoenix.
![]() Here is the entry hole he was quartering away at about 30 yards. ![]() The arrow exited close to the shoulder on the opposite side and was stuck in the ground when I found it.
