So here I am, sitting on my favorite log, taking a break from a mid morning grouse bowhunt. Sylvie must be the best sandwhich maker on this planet, black forest ham, mozzarella cheeze, dijon mustard and crushed black pepper were all well stacked in between two slices of whole wheat bread, basically, I was in heaven
After taking a bite, I seen something move withing a patch of willows, I couldn't make it out and then, " Oh my, its a Ruffy !!!!!!!!", blood starts flowing and without even thinking about it, I immediately turned into stalk mode !!I know I could have taken a talon tipped arrow out of my quiver but my old trusty 150 grain Phoenix was just begging to be launched for a special meet and greet meeting with that Ruffy, I litterally broke down and granted its wish. I ranged my quarry and I had 37 yards and I knew if I took my time, the bird would make its way towards a series of birch trees..... 5 minutes later, I had made my way over to a small bundle of black spruce trees and waited for a shot, while the Ruffed Grouse made its way towards a set of birch trees, I ranged them and I would have a shot of 19 yards......another five minutes passed before the bird got to the base of the trees and with a small whistle, the bird stopped and glanced in my direction. Little to say, I was drawn and set my pin right behind the mid breast point as the bird was giving me a quartering away shot. Without hesitation, my arrow was on its way and hit right where I had aimed, the bird hopped a few times and fell to its side.....for the first time, I could actually see the blood gushing out of the entrance wound a good 6 inches. As I made my way towards the bird, I could see it laying next to my arrow, which was embedded in the tree.....again !!!!!!! I took a few moments to thank the Ruffed Grouse for allowing it to feed both Sylvie and I and got my camera and took a picture. Thanking Red Feather Archery again for allowing me to live another great bowhunt, a trophy for me ![]()

Great shooting. I have trouble getting one with a shotgun.
![]() Acually two years ago while sitting on a bear bait I had 8-12 of them come in every couple of days. The shot was only 12 yards so I thought why not just use my broadhead and see if I could nip off the head. Well I have to tell you those little devils sure can move their heads in a hurry. No meat but lots of fun. It's not like hand gernades, close doesn't get the job done

Thanks fellas, I must admit we are blessed with an abundance of birds here in our part of the Northwest Territories. I am 8 for 8 this fall with the Phoenix 150 grain head, its very rewarding knowing all the practice we do makes us accurate during the bowhunting season, small game hunting is very special to me and everytime I shoot it, I make sure I either have a back stop or I don't shoot.
Thanking all of you for your patience with me posting my small game pics and stories ![]() Daniel
