Now if you think these broadheads don't penetrate that well, do I have news for you, they do !!!!!!!!
Do you remember that last Ruffed Grouse I shot, well, as I got a pass thru, that darn arrow of mine kept going and the broadhead completely embedded itself in a birch tree, yeapers, right at the base and that is the broadhead that has shot everything I have so far, including my Sandhill Crane..... So I'm very nervous about breaking this broadhead and the extraction will be a delicate one because I don't want to cut this birch tree down, hummm, so I called a friend of mine that specializes in trees and he told me to only cut what I needed to and once the broadhead had been removed to get all the clippings back in the hole and wrap the tree in cheese cloth and to keep that area wet for a week or so. Well, you have to really really like that broadhead and birch trees to get the operation done. Once I have it removed, I will post the process, very delicate situation here I say !!!! Stay tuned

I know exactly what you mean I honestly have one arrow in my quiver that I have taken most of my animals with to date. If it is lost in the woods I will stay in the woods searching until I find it. I know what you mean and I wish you luck on the extraction!

I am having difficulty finding the appropriate extraction tool
The one I was using broke, guess hitting the wooden handle with a hammer wasn't what it was meant to do.This tree has to live and we will get it done !!

I hope all goes well with your surgery.
I kinda know the feeling you are having about your broadhead. I used the same head on the doe and the coyote yetserday evening and today I took a shot from the ground at a turkey and missed. I almost cried while I was walking around looking for that arrow and broadhead. Just when I thought it was gone forever I caught a glimpse of my orange fletchings. The Phoenix is sharpened back up and safely in my quiver for another hunt this evening. I hope you are able to save your prized broadhead also.

This was indeed a very delicate operation because using a mallet and large chisel, one tap too hard and bye bye broadhead, the other thing that I found difficult was managing to cut around the lower portion of the broadhead, that made me sweat
lolEverything went as planned and we were able to retreive this very precious and irreplaceable Phoenix 150 grain broadhead. Back to the bush I say and Briarsdad, I know the feeling, after shooting a chicken (grouse terminology in the North ) I thought for sure my arrow was lost, I looked for it and at the last minute I decided to give it one last try and I too seen my fletching. This sucker was completely embedded in that birch tree, wow !!! Here are the pictures I took, they are in order of extraction and finally I can hold my broadhead again ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() and finally !!!!!

I am glad that you were able to retrieve your Phoenix, hopefully the tree will make a full recovery also.

Good to see you got that out of the tree and it looks like there was minimal damage to the tree.
