Today was the first day of Indiana archery season and after a very long day at work I finally made it to the woods this evening. I set in my favorite spot where in the last 3 years I have never set without seeing deer. This evening was no different, 20 minutes into the hunt I had a doe come in 35 yards behind me and eventually made her way to 30 yards quartering away. It didn't take me long to settle the pin behind her shoulder and let the Phoenix fly! Within seconds of the arrow hitting her I thought I heard her crash over the next ridge, turned out I was right she didn't make it 80 yards after a complete pass thru entering right behind the ribs and exiting right behind the opposite shoulder. The Phoenix performed flawlessly. I waited a about 30 minutes before climbing down to check my arrow and decide if I should go ahead and get the truck or wait. I could see the deer from where my arrow was sticking out of the ground so I decided to climb back up and hopefully a good buck would wonder by before dark. I nocked the same arrow I shot the doe with, the broadhead was still razor sharp and I figured no sense in dirtying up two arrows.30 minutes later a coyote came down the same trail the doe had been standing on when I shot her. When he got to the spot where the blood started he stopped and I let the Phoenix fly again! I climbed down again to find my arrow and it had a fresh coat of blood and coyote fur on it, I thought what was the odds of shooting the same arrow twice in one evening. At that point I figured I would go ahead and walk out and start getting ready to go after the deer and get her out of the woods. I had to cross a small ditch and cross a big field to get to the truck and when I climbed up from the ditch I could see more deer in the field I had to cross. I had actually walked right up on two small bucks and they fed to within 20 yards of me and didn't have a clue I was anywhere around. While I was watching the little bucks I noticed a group of turkeys feeding my way and it looked like they would follow the same way the two deer had went. I have a fall turkey tag and I thought well I may as well go ahead and go for three in a row with the Phoenix.
I waited until they made their way into a small opening right in front of me 25 yards and I settled the pin on a small tom and let the Phoenix fly one more time. It wasn't meant to be I hit a cut off corn stock and it shot my arrow end over end and I watched the turkeys run back across the field. I call it catch and release when I miss, I got the thrill of the hunt and I didn't have to clean a bird plus I get to try again! I can't remember a more eventful opening day of bow season, Ok enough rambling here are a couple pics of the doe. This is the worst pic of me I think I have ever seen, I kinda look like a crazy person. ![]() ![]() Here is a pic of the Phoenix and the exit hole. ![]() Here is one of my favorite hunting/tracking buddy and I.

We're not worthy, we're not worthy! haha I was starting to read about the turkey and thought YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME LOL!
NICE job!! I tried, but the only deer I saw was a 120's 10 and he was too far out anyway. I did toast a squirrel with the Talon though. Anyway, great opener! |

I was suppose to work today so I didn't get to hunt this morning but the rain changed that. As I was pulling up my lane coming home I saw a bunch of turkeys feeding along my corn field making there way towards my food plot. I hurried up the drive, grabbed my bow and threw on some camo and run over the dam on my pond trying to cut them off before they got to the food plot. I made it just as they were entering the south end of the field. I crawled over to the northwest edge of the food plot and sure enough one hen fed away from the others and made it to within 30 yards of me. I had a perfect shot at a calm turkey standing still and I pulled off to the left and shot right beside her. Oh well more catch and release I guess lol.

LOL no, I can't hit turkeys either! Missed a jake at 12 yards this past spring. TWELVE YARDS. Anyway. he was puffed up and that's my excuse. Settled the pin and well..should have used my recurve lol! Never had shot at a turkey before. Just shaved the feathers off. *sigh*
You will get your turkey! Just remember there are more feathers than meat! |

Bill...that is simply AWESOME buddy...way to go..almost a triple
![]() My buddy called me today and said he took a shot (100gr phoenix) at a doe guartering to him. Stuck it thru the shoulder, went thru dragging the insides thru the exit hole and sticking in the ground 3 inches. When he hit her, she dropped stiff legged like it was a spine shot. He said he was pretty impressed. He wanted me to tell Stan he was field testing with that shot...

Great job Bill!
I would say we are building a good amount of proof that the phoenix is here to stay.
