Default Red Feather Archery gave me the Red Carpet Treatment this weekend

Well it was the first weekend I was truly excited to hunt this season. We were going to have temps in the low 60s for a high and high 30's for a low.

I got out on sat morning and had a group of does come by while it was still dark and I didn't have anything else come by. So I got down and went back to the farm and helped there for a while and then called it a night.

Sunday morning comes real quick I get back up in the tree and start the wait again. Just before enough light was in the sky to allow me to see my pins a doe was hanging around the tree but left about 2 min before I was able to see my pins. Not long after I would say 10 min a coyote comes along following the doe's exact path. I was not going to let him get away so I shot him at 43 yards got a pass through and he went 30 more yards and he was dead.

I get down out of the tree and pick up the arrow, nock the mud off and test sharpness. It still shaved arm hair so I nocked the arrow again and was back up the tree.

The rest of the morning went quick so I got down and took a couple pictures of the yote and the blood trail.

I had a quick bite of lunch and back to the tree I went. I got set up and my uncle was out finishing up the last truck load of the soybean harvest. Well I didn't expect any thing for a while yet so I thought I would get a quick nap in. Just then I herd a twig snap I turn my head and a doe was coming down the trail. She stopped gave me a shot and I had about a 12" window to drop the arrow through the sticks and the phoenix found its mark.

The arrow rolled the doe she popped back up and made it 60 yards and was dead before she hit the ground

Now for the pictures

Awesome, buddy! Nice job on the 'yote. I've hunted for them while I've been out bowhunting deer and elk for 20 years now and have only shot two with my bow. One of these seasons I'm going to head out strictly for songdogs. 43 yards is a heck of a shot too, they're really not that big.

Beautiful doe, too. Great way to start the season and I believe this puts you in the lead for the one broadhead contest

Thank you Stan, I can't say enough good things about this head!

Sweet, isn't Bill there with me? I thought I read that he got a yote and a doe as well?

And I am going to be taking a file and notching the back of one of the blades with each kill I get. I want to use it for as long as I can (seasons to come hopefully)

I think you got me beat Dustin, I didn't get a pic of my coyote because he ran onto a neighbors property and the guy is a real pain. If it had been a deer I would have went after it and taken the chance but I shot them both on Friday night and I had to work Saturday so by the time I got the deer out of the woods I just let the yote go.

I am going to have to start over now anyway because I lost my arrow Phoenix combo shooting at another turkey yesterday. My woods is thick with turkeys and I did a little spot and stalk on a group of hens yesterday morning. That was the third turkey I had shot at in 3 days and I havn't hit one yet! I guess that is why there are so many around here, because I can't hit them. Great job on the double, keep it up man I gotta start over but I have plenty of 100 gr Phoenix heads left.

Great double Dustin....

They way your going...you could end up with a serrated single bevel with the notches on the back of that head pretty quick...

You like the way they just sickled thru....they leave a nice blood trail don't they?....

I can't believe how much this head makes them bleed and how much it penetrates. I know a pass through is a pass through but I swear the arrow didn't even slow down and I get about 1/2 a shaft worth of penetration into the dirt

I think those "serrations" would be aerodynamic air foils that reduce drag and increase the cool factor lol.

My goal is to put down 6 deer with this head this year. I can get unlimited tags and I have a lot of family and friends that don't hunt that have asked me to get them a deer

Man that is a bummer! I have not hunted turkeys much but the first one I shot at I hit only feathers. I just started hunting turkeys it is a blast but now I need to get after them more seriously this spring, and fall if I can find some around here.

I have great news!!! After I posted this it was killing me thinking about my lost arrow and Phoenix. I grabbed my wife and my son Briar and we headed for the woods to look for that arrow. It took us all of about 5 minutes to find it! I looked all over yesterday and couldn't find that arrow to save my life, I guess I just needed my good luck hunting buddy Briar with me to find it. Anyway I am back in the game, but I have a feeling it's gonna be hard to keep up with Dustin!

That is awesome! Glad you found that arrow.

And just because I have a high goal count set doesn't mean that I will be able to get them all. The hardest part is to get them to come by the stand in the light. I have had deer come by all the time just not in the light.

That will be a deadly combo, and yes the blood was great.
