Default The Possum who came to breakfast

Had a little excitement over coffee this morning. Yesterday, while my wife and I were busy remodeling the kitchen my youngest went out the chicken coop to gather the eggs. When she got to the back door we had it blocked off so she set the egg basket down and went off to play in the rain. Well, none of us remembered the eggs and they stayed on the back porch over night.

Early this morning I got up and put the morning coffee on then went to get the paper. As I was looking over the sports my wife hollers from the kitchen, 'There's something up by the chicken coop."

I go to the back door and look and sure enough, theres a grinner poking around. As luck would have it, I just received in the mail this week two Bear Super Kodiaks, one 45# and the other 50#. I'm trying desperately to find a bow that goes easy on my shoulder and I think I found a pair that fit me I had chance to shoot the 45#er a for a little while between rain storms and she was sitting in the living room, awaiting a face lift.

I grabbed it and a 2018 tipped with a 125 grain Phoenix and marched outside in my pj's. I had briefly considered taking a Talon loaded arrow, but just wasn't sure as I haven't shot them from a bow less than 53#'s, and felt I'd rather be safe than sorry.

I noticed on the way out that the egg basket was empty and shells were on the deck. Guess I know why the opossum was hanging out. Got tired of cat food I imagine. Well, hanging out after dawn broke was probably not a good call on his part.

I can't say that what ensued was much of a hunt, but I am pleased with the new bow. The Super Kodiak grip feels natural in my hand, swung up easy and drew sooo smooth. 45#'s might just be something I can handle for a while. Anyway, a well placed arrow and the not so rapidly escaping little egg stealer had his career cut short.

The scene of the crime.

The egg thief and the new to me Kodiak.

Stan, you are an amazing traditional bowhunter. I know a well placed arrow out of a bow 40# and above is deadly. But what impresses me the most is how you take all the quarry to go after seriously, a true quality !!!!

Have a great day and keep smiling

Daniel
