The pheonix seems to not want to thread into my arrow as easily as other broadheads, is this normal for others? Also i was curious what the purpose of the collar above the threads is?

The collar is meant to fit snuggly against the inside of the shaft to help align it, as well as keep it from unscrewing itself as easily. Since it is meant to contact the inside of the shaft, if you have excess glue on the walls it will make it tougher to screw in then other heads because they do not make contact with the inside of the arrow itself.

I have the same thing with the ones I have. It is probably because the teflon coating increases the diameter of the screw a little bit. I have never seen it to be a problem as I can always screw them in all the way and there is never any wobble.
I would guess that the collar is to help align the head to the insert. |

You guys nailed it. The teflon will make it slightly tighter, but shouldn't keep you from getting your broadhead firmly in the shaft. In fact, in testing I liked the fit I got better than the original prototypes that had no teflon, or just one coat. The collar is designed to align the tip dead on with your insert.
