Hi BH Nut,

They're close to muskrats, but actually a little bit different animal. Nutrias were imported to America near the end of the beaver trade as a substitute that could be turned into hats. Then the fashion changed, the market dried up and when they were good for anything, they were turned out...and remain to this day.
