Default Turkey Hunting Broadhead

Whats a good choice for a broadhead for turkey hunting? First time im goin out with my bow and was curious as to whether i could use my deer broadheads or would it be better to get a different one for turkeys?

Thanks
Brad

there's a couple threads on here already about this if you search around, a general rule of thumb, is huge expandables. good luck bud!

thanks found them, yea im excited to try this year, ive gotten pretty good on setup/callin em in cuz no one i know has the same call i use and everytime i hunt with a buddy and they try callin they get no response so i bust out mine and before i can finish we have birds answering us, plus gotta new place with a huge flock and some good pines and oaks they roost in and they come down into the pasture...sorry for running on there but definately cannot wait for spring to roll around, deer have disappeared (aka shot during rifle season) so its pretty low key now

Turkeys are tough birds, shot placement is very important on them. I have killed them with muzzy's with no problem. Last spring I tried the Rage 2 blade and I missed (wind caught my arrow or something) but that was not the broadheads fault. I would suggest a big cutting expandable like DoeCommander said, but if you prefer a fixed blade they will work just fine if you hit them in the kill zone. Just my .02 hope it helps.

The turkey terror is a fine head if you want a body shot, along with the Buzzcut, and the Steel Force Talon. The Magnus Talon is a great head for "head" shots. broadheadshed.com has all of them.

When we first started with the Bullhead I wasn't in favor of it, I didn't see anything wrong with using a regular head. Sometimes I would have to look for a bird but not often, some guys I hunted with lost birds quite a bit but they kind of pushed the limits when it came to range on those. It didn't take long in R&D when I got it. Man it was just plain fun and its like tracking a loaf of bread after the shot. Sure it takes the head off but I'm not into mounting them anyway.

Woody - thanks for putting that video/commercial up. I love seeing the birds drop like that. I can't wait for spring turkey season, I just have to decide between regular head, or the bullhead. My hesitation with this head is the increased chance of missing? Not sure it would be a problem with my canon for a bow though......

Me, error................Nooooooooooooooooooo!

It would be a twig, the wind, something......but NEVER operator error. Right guys. Plausible deniability, that would be my story, and I'd stick to it.

I'm going to be using the steelforce Talon this year. It is designed to grab and tear stopping a complete pass through and hopefully keeping the turkey from taking flight.

"My hesitation with this head is the increased chance of missing?"

This might make me look bad to some but during our testing of the prototypes we bought a lot of domestic turkeys and that was a pretty fun day of work for me.

Missing hasn't been a problem for me even on fall birds that don't seen to ever stop.

Woody - I don't think you'll find anybody here to question your prototype testing methodology. Sounds like a wonderful stress-free day of work to me. I think I'll give the Bullhead a try this spring.
