Greetings all,
Chris Morton from Anchorage AK, here, aka Alaskan Assassin. Evident from the handle I'm an Athens Archery field staff member. Bought my first Athens used from ArcheryTalk, fell in love, and then applied for the field staff. A big thanks to Broadhead Shed for partnering with Athens, and a ton of thanks to Athens and the staff there (especially Rodney482). My bows include two Athens Accomplice 32s, one 70#, one 60#. I'm also still digging my Switchback and my Diamond Black Ice. The Athens are sans blood. The Switchback has accounted for an Alaska black bear (Slick Trick Mag 100) and the Diamond has lots of ptarmigan blood, and a fox (Razor Trick) from the north slope of AK. I'm ever more committed to another black bear this year, a MT speedgoat hunt in the fall, and some Kodiak deer (and hopefully brown bear) with the Athens in November. I love hearing all the comments on various broadhead performance, problematic issues, solutions, pros/cons. I'm primarily a fixed head guy, but will likely try some Rage this year. I'm interested in the Muzzy Phantom MX-4, but would sure like replaceable blades on such a critter. Enough! On with the broadhead talk! |

Welcome Chris. I'm sure being from Alaska that you've got some awesome hunting stories. I have to ask... you've shot ptarmigan with your bow??? Isnt' that a bird if I'm correct? If so... that's sweet.
David

Ptarmigan with a bow. They are about the size of a grouse, maybe a bit smaller. When we go caribou hunting on the Haul Road on the north slope, we carry a couple arrows with some kind of small game head. I like the G5 SGH - deadly, and they don't bury in the tundra. You can generally walk to 20-30 yards before they walk off or fly. We shoot them on the ground, of course. When they are feeding, they will just walk off and put their heads down. I killed 10 out of one group last year, there were so many and they were gorging themselves on berries. Tons of fun, good for the confidence, and yummy eating!

Chris, a huge welcome to you way up there in God's country. My brother is stationed in Tok at the Coast Guard station. He shot a black bear, caribou, and moose last year.
Thanks for joining the site, and can't wait to hear some of your stories from Alaska.
